2017 CHILDREN’S DAY: MRS MARTHA UDOM EMMANUEL HOST AKWA IBOM CHILDREN
…………………………..As part of activities marking the 2017 National Children’s Day Celebration, the Wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, Wednesday, hosted a cross section of Akwa Ibom children to a party.
The event which took place at the Banquet Hall ground of the Government House, Uyo, saw the children contesting in various activities such as dancing competition, cat-walking and lots more.
Addressing the children, the Governor’s wife, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr Glory Emmanuel Edet expressed gratitude to God for His protection over the children.
She appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel whom she described as a child friendly Governor for approving the activities for the year’s celebration. Dr Edet also thanked the Governor’s wife, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel for using her pet project, the Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path-Initiative, FEYReP, to touch the lives of children in the state.
“So many states are not celebrating the way we are celebrating the children’s day in Akwa Ibom State. Governor Udom Emmanuel is a man that believes in children. Because he has done all these things for the children in this state, God will use the prayers of these young ones to keep him for eight years as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State”, she added.
Speaking further, the Women Affairs boss admonished them to be of good conduct by being obedient to their parents and guardians, adding that with these attributes, their future is bright.
In her words “Don’t play with your studies; education is key to a successful future. Be careful with the friends you keep, study hard so you can become great in future and above all honour your parents and fear God”.
Furthermore, the Dean, Forum of Honourable Commissioners and Special Advisers charged parents and guardians to cater for their children irrespective of their status and maintained that the Governor has done so much in making sure that the Child’s Right Law as well as the free and compulsory education policy is implemented in the state.
Highpoint of the event was the cutting of the party’s cake by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr Glory Emmanuel Edet assisted by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Grace Stephen, Wife of the member representing Oruk Anam State Constituency, Mrs Ime Udo Kierian, Wife of the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Finance, Mrs Doris Nkan and a cross section of the Children.
The week-long celebration which began with a Solemn Assembly also featured an Essay Writing and Debate Competition, Thanksgiving Service, Akwa Ibom State Children Parliament Sitting, will continue on Friday, May 26th, 2017 with a Children’s Carnival float and will climax with a Match Past on Saturday, May 27th, 2017 at the Uyo Township Stadium.
