IN THE NEWS: GOVERNOR EMMANUEL COMMISSIONS 5.1KM AKSU INTERNAL ROADS, 7 RESIDENTIAL QUARTERS

…..Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has commissioned 5.1km internal roads within the Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Obio Akpa Campus in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of the State.

Addressing the people of the area, Governor Emmanuel commended the host community for maintaining good and cordial environment for the successful execution of the project.

He disclosed that the project was billed to be commissioned alongside various others during the state’s anniversary in 2018 but could not meet up due to numerous projects executed, adding that there are over 400 inter-ministerial projects awaiting commissioning.

The Governor reassured the people of Oruk Anam of his commitment to complete all projects awarded in the area, and commended the contractor, J. P. Sigma for the speedy and quality job done.

Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, while explaining the capacity of the road networks, disclosed that the Governor decided to intervene on seeing the deplorable nature of the roads when he went to commission the Theatre Art at the campus, and assigned that the place be cleaned up.

He said the 5.1km project with five roads –A, B, C, D and E, are done as specified in the award letters. “The campus has been transformed from a glorified School of Agricultural Sciences to a modern day university, and the activities within the area changed.”

In his goodwill message, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Eno Ibanga, spoke of the gesture of the Governor as the best thing to have happened in AKSU. “You have not only opened this university, but have also brought light in the environment.”

On his part, the Executive Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Area, Hon. Ubong Idiong, thanked the Governor for resuscitating the university campus which is one of the oldest institutions in Nigeria, but was clamped down by past governments.

Similarly, Governor Emmanuel moved with his entourage to the Wellington Bassey Army Barracks, Ibagwa in Abak Local Government, to commission the seven (7) remodeled and renovated Corporal and Below Quarters with 12 flats each.

Speaking, the State Chief Executive noted that it is just first phase, and that phase two would commence in June this year, as a way of showing appreciation for the military’s efforts in maintaining peace and order in the state.

Governor Emmanuel vowed to set aside part of his entitlements for social responsibility of government in the Barracks to make the place habitable.

He assured the soldiers that his government would do everything humanly possible to install submersible pumps to ensure that there is water and steady power supply in the Barracks.

The Governor used the platform and thanked men of the Nigeria Army and other armed forces as well as other paramilitary in the state, for their collaboration and efforts in maintaining peace, law and order in the state which has made Akwa Ibom one of the most peaceful states in the country.

The Commander 2 Brigade Uyo, Maj. Gen. T. A. Lagbaja, expressed appreciation to Governor Emmanuel for his direct intervention, influence and support to provide accommodation for the soldiers and their families.

To Mrs. Mary Danjuma, what the Governor has done is a clear identification of a father and leader who has deep interest for the welfare of his children, staff and entire constituency. “Your intervention is fully recognized and appreciated.”
