IN THE NEWS: IPAC harp on the need to deepen democracy in Nigeria

*Set to hold South-South/ South East Conference in Uyo

……..Leaders of Political parties in Nigeria have been charged to seek means within the framework of the law and extant regulations to position their parties as active vehicles through which democracy can be deepened especially, during the forthcoming general election in the country.

This charge was given by The Chairman Inter-party Advisory Council IPAC, South-South/South East Zone, Engr Martins Inyang while declaring open the meeting of South-South/South East leaders of IPAC in Uyo on Friday, 6th July 2018.

Engr Inyang who also doubles as the IPAC Chairman, Akwa Ibom State and South South geopolitical zone, called on members to use the opportunity the organization provides in the region to conjugate ideas and fine-tune plans towards strengthening regional democracy in the country.

The IPAC Boss used the opportunity to thanked the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State for approving the hosting of the meeting in Akwa Ibom State and for giving a leveling playground to political parties operating in the state to strife without rancour. He also thanked the Special Advisers Bureau of Political, Legislative and Water Resources, Akwa Ibom State Rt Hon Ekong Samson for providing the rally point to all political parties in the state.

Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, the Regional Secretary of IPAC South-South/South East Region Hon Fred Obi who is the IPAC Chairman, Delta State and the IPAC Deputy Chairman South-South, said the meeting was designed to afford members the opportunity to put finishing touches on the regional conference of the organization which according to him, will hold in Uyo from Thursday, 26th to Saturday, 28th July 2018.

He said, the three day conference will have as its theme ‘Strenthening Regional Democracy Through Inter-party Dialogue’ and will provide a platform on which topical issues in the country will be discuss as they affect the region with the aim of offering workable solutions to them.

He explained further that the conference will also give the organization the opportunity to confer award of recognition on deserving individuals who have through their contributions, expedite the developmental strides of the region.

Mr Obi added that the conference which is build to hold at Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo, will be chaired by His Excellency (Sen) Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, The Executive Governor of Delta State while His Excellency Mr Udom Emmanuel, The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State will be the chief host.
