IN THE NEWS: Schools Cleanup Project Flagsoff in Ikot Ekpene ***targets 12 primary schools

……..In line with Government’s policy on keeping Akwa Ibom state clean, Ikot Ekpene Partnership Project, is flagging off a week long school cleaning exercise called ‘Schools Cleanup Project’ at Methodist School, Anwa Udo Akai, Ikot Ekpene on Thursday June 4, 2020 by 11 am.

Ikot Ekpene Partnership Project is a platform of dedicated professionals poised to raise building blocks for REAL development in the area and committed to support Governor Udom Emmanuel’s completion agenda.

According to the Principal of the Organization, Prince Samuel Ukut, the initiative is to assist management of Primary schools get rid of grasses and shrubs that have taken over school premises during the 2-month lockdown ocassioned by the novel Coronavirus outbreak.

“While we anticipate the directive for schools to reopen after a protracted holiday ocassioned by Covid-19 lockdown order, there is need to cleanup Primary Schools environment to ease pupils’ return to school.

“As you know, a clean and tidy school environment engender good learning process, encourage pupils to remain in school and prevent avoidable incidents such as snake bites. As a group, we decided to do the least we could to give our kids a great back-to-school welcome.” He said.

Ukut said that the Member representing Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency, Prince Idongesit Ntekpere will perform the flagging off of the week long event, while the Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, Prince Ikim, and the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Prof. Maria Ikorok will be the Special Guests of Honour.

Also speaking, the Chairman of event Implementation Committee, Otuekong Dennis Nyoro, said the group chose primary schools since pupils are very tender and may easily be overwhelmed by grasses taking over their school premises.

He stated that in addition to Methodist School Anwa Udo Akai, eleven other primary schools will be cleaned up in the course of the programme including Primary School, Utu Edem Usung, Primary School, Ibiakpan, Primary School, Uruk Uso and Primary School, Ikot Osurua.

Others are Primary School, Ikot Inyang, Primary School, Ikot Abia Idem, Primary School, Amayam, Primary School, Ekoi, Ikot Obong Edong, Primary School, Ikot Atasung/Ikot Obong Otoro, Primary School, Anwa Nta, Abiakpo Ikot Essien, and Primary School, Urua Ekpa, Mbiaso.

In his remarks, the Secretary of the Implementation Committee, Hon. Ifiok Okure who is also the Councillor representing Ward 1 revealed that the programme is supported by Family Empowerment, Youth Reorientation Program, FEYReP, IniEmemobong Foundation, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council and Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, AKSEPWMA.
