Luke Calls for the Overhaul of Certain Budgetary Provisions to Accommodate Recent Youth’s Agitations
…pushes for protection of tech entrepreneurs.
Member representing Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency, Mr Onofiok Luke, attended the budget defence of the House Committee on Youth Development today.
Speaking at the budget defence, Mr Luke said that given the agitations of young Nigerians in the recent weeks, there is need to rejig the budgetary allocation for youth development in Nigeria to accommodate their interests and yearnings.
He called on the Minister to devise means to protect youths who are legitimate tech entrepreneurs and decried a situation where they are harassed by security agencies.
Mr. Luke also frowned at the zero budgetary allocation for the Nigerian Youth Parliament in 2020 and the 2021 budgets. He urged that appropriation be made for the Parliament to enable it hold regular meetings. He acknowledged that the Nigerian Youth Parliament immensely contributed to his development and growth in leadership, advocacy and public service.
The meeting which was presided by the Chairman of the Committee, Mr Yemi Adaramodu, had in attendance the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, Director General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Col. S. Ibrahim, and others.
