Martha Emmanuel Frowns at Spike in Rape Cases in the Country
***declares state unsafe for perpetrators
………..Akwa Ibom State Governor’s wife, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel has frowned at the alarming rate of rape cases and violence against women in the country.
She says all morally human beings must rise and condemn the crime by contributing their quota to halt the monstrous acts.
Dr. Emmanuel who spoke in reaction to the recent sad tales of rape victims in some parts of the country, added that henceforth, stiffer penalties would be meted out to rapists, child abusers and predators in the state.
The governor’s wife who is also the founder of Family Empowerment Youth Reorientation Path-initiative ( FEYReP), stressed the country can no longer treat the crime with kid gloves, insisting that the time to nip the bud is now.
“I call on all stakeholders and key actors in this fight to act now. The traditional institution, religious bodies and the civil societies should as a matter of urgency act now, we cannot continue to sit and watch while evil men are molesting our young girls,” said the First Lady.
Dr. Emmanuel futher stated that as a mother of the state, it was always very disheartening whenever notice of abuse is brought to her, wondering what a 60-year old man would be looking for in a minor.
“I’m always very emotional whenever I hear of these cases that I wonder what is happening in our society. How can a grown up man take delight in molesting a small girl of only 2 years?, she queried.
The governor’s however sounded a note of warning to perpetrators of rape, saying her platform FEYReP, would not relent in naming, shaming and convicting all rapists in the state with the help of the law enforcement agents.
