MEASURING ANTECEDENTS AND PUBLIC TRUST IN GOVERNMENT: THE ONOFIOK LUKE FACTOR

…………Over the past few decades, public trust in government has declined in Etinan Federal Constituency. Reversing this decline must become an important goal of successive governments to breach the trust accounted to them for good governance and delivery of dividends of democracy to the people.
In our nascent democracy, antecedents count for public approval for future positions or political aspirations that are centered on public trust. A failed politician, based on antecedents, is sometimes not privileged to occupy new position when the need arises based on the woes he had inflicted in his past positions. Also, people who have done exceptionally in past positions must be trusted with new and more challenging positions.
Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke is a household name in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large. He was the pioneer speaker of The Nigeria Youth Parliament, before then he was the PA to the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State Godswill Akpabio on protocol, his agitation as a student union leader was credible and his charismatic style of leadership distinguished him for house of assembly seat in 2011, representing the good and the bad people of Nsit Ubium State constituency.
During his stay as honorable member, he contributed immensely to enacting laws that are beneficial to his constituents and Akwa Ibomites at large; provision of infrastructural development, skill acquisition, human capital development; as well as peace and security mechanisms among others too numerous to mention.
Having performed excellently as a lawmaker, in 2016 after his reelection, he was as a workaholic man of inestimable brand that is packaged with ideas cum sound mind, Hon Onofiok Luke was sworn in as the speaker of Akwa Ibom State against all odds.
As 2019 approaches, it is pivotal we consider aspirants that have positive and laudable past antecedents to rekindle the public trust in governance. The name that rings bell in every nook and cranny of Etinan Federal Constituency and beyond is Rt. Hon. Onofiok Akpan Luke. He is the frontline aspirant vying to represent the good people of Etinan Federal Constituency at the green chambers. We must put into consideration his vast knowledge as a legislator that has the requisite skills in legislative business to do the needful and bring quality representation to Etinan, Nsit Ubium and Nsit Ibom people.
