PDP SHOULD CONCEDE DEFEAT IN THE SPIRIT OF SPORTSMANSHIP, RATHER THAN WITCH-HUNTING YPP CANDIDATES

An issue-based campaign can still be achievable through lofty blueprints, track records, superlative performances and superior engagement of grassroots mobilizers without witch-hunting, truncating and crippling other major contenders in the 2023 race, if truly the Maintain Peace Movement (MPM) mantra of the People’s Democratic Party were inaugurated to profess and propagate peace, love, unity and progress in the political climes of Akwa Ibom State as it is enshrined in the completion agenda of Gov. Udom Emmanuel.

In a democratic system of government, it is advisable to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship as a great virtue and a major characteristic of democracy which every democrat must be inculcated to concede the outcome of every political adventure rather than applying force as a dictator to impose a decree against the collective will of the people.

Ecclesiastes 9 : 11 says, “I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all”.
Posterity will definitely question and judge our actions accordingly if we fail to act inline with the situation stirring at us. As civilized and law abiding citizens, it is imperative to convey our messages through this medium and address the world on the looming political crisis affecting Nigeria and Akwa Ibom State. The infringement of human rights and freedom, concocted by the ineptitude and lackadaisical character of the present administration of Gov. Udom Emmanuel who does not have empathy to fellow humans.

The undemocratic practices we experience in Akwa Ibom State has become a thing of great concern, the three tiers of government have been subjected to the control of one Man at the Hilltop.
The legislative arm in AKHA that was to be autonomous, does not have the constitutional powers again to operate independently without the interference of the executive arm which turn them to puppets in the hands of the state governor.

The judiciary arm that was meant to be the last hope of a common Man has lost her integrity due to the desperate quest for wealth.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that was established to mitigate corruption and money laundery, has fast become a political instrument to witch-hunt, molest, victimize and humiliate opposition parties.

Our leniency has been taken for cowardliness, it is time to act for the sake of posterity, the frivolous and inhumane treatment meted on members of YPP cannot be condoned any longer, rewarding evil for good is a sacrilegious act according to the Ibibio culture.

A careful study of the Federal High Court judgement on Sen. Bassey Albert Akpan, has revealed biases connected to his gubernatorial popularity which has posed as threat to the unpopular candidate of the ruling party in the state.

We wish to state our position categorically that the count charge levelled against Sen. Bassey Albert Akpan is malicious and hatred which is financially influenced to thwart his guber ambition.

That receiving a gift or award as appreciation in recognition of selfless service has never been crime in any section of Nigeria’s constitution.

That the youths are curious to see justice prevail over this political masterminding incarcerated conviction.

That throughout the judgement proceeding, there is no established fact that those car gifts were an inducement to obtain favor from Sen. Bassey Albert Akpan.

That we understand that the purported conviction is a plot to clampdown his liberation movement of the masses.

That, we are resolute to liberate Akwa Ibom State from the shackles and bondage of PDP through the ballot revolution mantra of YPP.

That, we have been loyal and voted for PDP in the last 24 years without tangible development in the state.

That the destruction, servitude, cruelty and stagnant poverty meted on the poor masses by PDP can no longer be tolerated.
