Akwa Ibom people in diaspora have given the state Governor Mr. Udom Emmanuel a pat on the back for the significant development strides recorded in the state during last two years of his administration.

The President Ibibio Peoples Union, (IPU) Ikpafak Edet Udofia, made the commendation while fielding questions from Government House Correspondents at Government House, Uyo.

Ikpafak Udofia, who was in the state for the Annual Congress of the Organisation, said that they have used the occasion of the visit to undertake assessment tour of projects executed in the state to ascertain the spate of development and possibly explore ways of contributing to the development process by way of giving back whatever they feel would transform the state.

He posited that the Governor has performed creditably despite the prevailing economic reality in the country.

Hear him : “we came into the state for the Annual Congress of our Organisation. The congress has been quite commendable. We’re in the state because this is our home, our root and we will always come back with whatever we find that works in other countries to help transform the state”.

Ikpafak Udofia stated that the Union promotes good governance in every administration and has played a leading role in marketing the state to attract investors who would key into the development programmes in the present administration.

He said : “we have never been anti government. We speak out whatever we see that is against development in any administration to foster good governance and development. We’ve been talking to a lot of people about the state and what is so fascinating here is the hospitality of our people. Our people are so welcoming, we are the most welcoming people in Nigeria.”

He listed the projects visited to include roads rehabilitation and construction, upgrading work in Health institutions and particularly lauded the Governor for the successes recorded in the area of steady electricity saying that electricity is a major attraction to investors and a panacea to development.

“The Governor has assured us that he is working to stabilise electricity and this is the basic requirement for investment and for development to thrive. We are going back to tell the people that things have improved. I have personally enjoyed electricity more than it has ever been in the history of the state. I decided to lodge in a private place to see things by myself. These are the basic things that would draw industrialisation to the State “.

Ikpafak Udofia, who was accompanied by his predecessor Ikpafak Thompson Essien, thumbed up the Governor for laying a solid foundation for the industrialization of the state and sued for more support to the administration.

On his part, Ikpafak Thompson Essien, expressed satisfaction on their findings pointing out that Akwa Ibom is lucky to have Mr Udom Emmanuel at the helm of the state affairs.

He noted that the Governor has reposition the state for industrialisation by putting in place reliable infrastructure, security of lives and property as well as manpower development.

“.. the state is doing very well particularly in the area of security to prepare itself for industrialisation and i commend Mr Udom Emmanuel for the relative peace enjoyed in the state since his assumption of office. This would encourage investors to come and do business in the state ”

Ikpafak Thompson therefore advised the people to develop the drive for innovation, creativity and pragmatic ideas, adding that they should quit what he termed the “give me give me mentality ” and harness the abundant resources to create wealth and earn a living.

“I’ve seen a lot of resources in the state. Everywhere I go I see money. There’s so much wealth here . Our people have to be creative. The “give me mentality” will not allow us to be creative. The Governor is doing a great job here. In fact he is God sent to the people of the state.”

He urged the people to desist from promoting negative comments on development initiative of the administration but support the administration to realise it development agenda.

The Special Adviser Bureau of Political Affairs, Barrister Ekong Sampson, expressed delight at the commendations of the diasporans and assured of transparency in the forthcoming Local government Elections to sustain the ideals of the present administration.
