…………….Commissioner for Works, Akwa Ibom State, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen has declared that, the people of Eket Senatorial District are not interested in holding on to power for twelve years, and prevent rotation of power to Uyo Senatorial District in 2023.

Mr Inyangeyen made the remark when the Peoples’ Democratic Party received defectors from the All Progressives Congress, led by a chieftain of the party, Obong Sunny Elijah in Nsit Atai.

The Works Commissioner observed that, the Uyo Senatorial District had held power for eight years as Obong Victor Attah held the reins and power shifted to Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, with chief Dr Godswill Akpabio in charge for a full term of eight years. He explained that, with power shift to Eket Senatorial District, Governor Udom Emmanuel emerged and is performing creditably well.

Mr Inyangeyen charged the people of Nsit Atai to see the wisdom in joining the rest of Uyo Senatorial District to back Governor Emmanuel to complete his full term of eight years, and avoid a situation where another person from Eket Senatorial District will emerge and then retain office for two terms, thereby making Uyo wait until 2027 to have another opportunity.

The Works Commissioner argued that, such an unfortunate development will not only abort the lofty vision and development agenda Governor Emmanuel is executing in the state, but will ultimately truncate the political understanding of zoning, equity and fairness in the state. He therefore sued for support for the PDP and commended Prince Sunny Elijah for taking the wise decision of returning to PDP, where he was a founding member in Nsit Atai.

Earlier, the State Chairman of PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo, while receiving the returnees commended them, for taking such a bold step to come back to the big PDP family, which he maintained is their original platform with a charge on them to henceforth remain steadfast.

In his response on behalf of the defectors, Prince Sunny Elijah, who said he was returning to his root and the party he helped to build from the scratch, thanked the leadership of the party for coming out to welcome him and other former members of the All Progressive Congress back to the party.

Prince Elijah commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for the giant strides he has recorded so far across the state, especially the completion of Idiaba-Nda Nsit road and various completed and ongoing projects in the local Government, which he said was the reason why he took the decision to return to the PDP in order to support and contribute his quota to the development of the area.

Others who spoke at the event included, former member representing Nsit Atai State Constituency, in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon Mrs Sarah Elijah, who also defected to PDP and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs and Water Resources, Rt Hon. Barrister Ekong Sampson, who described the APC as a collapsing building, which right thinking men flee from. He charged those left in the collapsing APC structure to emulate Prince Sunny Elijah and flee before it is too late.

Others who spoke during the event were, Commissioner for Economic Development; Mr Idorenyin Udoh, Political Leader of Nsit Atai; Otuekong Raphael Bassey, Elijah, member representing Nsit Atai State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Mark Esset, Transition Chairman of Nsit Atai; Otuekong Uduak Ekpeowo, Zonal Ex-Officio; Hon M.C Akpan among others
