…………………Despite the widespread commendations that have followed the improved electricity power supply in the Akwa Ibom state capital, Governor Udom Emmanuel has said that he still has a lot to offer to address the issues in the power sector in the state.

Speaking at the Airport to Government House Correspondents on his return from official engagements in Abuja, Mr. Emmanuel said with a little more time, the entire state will be boosted with improved power supply.

Referring to the ongoing power sub station in Ekim, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area being undertaken by his administration, Mr Emmanuel said, “I just had a meeting yesterday with the management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria(TCN) to see what we can do in terms of Ekim, once we take that on, we take on Oron, I can now come back to answer your question but I know where we are going to.”

The Governor said the successes recorded in the power infrastructure development of the state was part of his blueprint to develop the sector in line with his campaign promises.

“When I was campaigning, I said these things are not rocket sciences, it takes dedication, sincerity of service to get these things done. As I said, we are just trying to test out what blueprint we have, just give us a little time.”

On his recent visit with other Governors to see President Muhammadu Buhari in London, Mr. Emmanuel said they went on behalf of Nigerians to show the President that the entire country loved and wished him well.

He said with the conclusion of elections in 2015, what leaders owe the people is good governance and not political party interest, and added that the President is the father of the nation.

“On behalf of all Nigerians, we needed to show him that Nigerians care and we love him as a father and that we care for him, we pray for him.”

It will be recalled that the 132KV, 2/15MVA injection substation in Uyo was commissioned on July 11, 2017, with an attendant boost in power supply in the Uyo Metropolis, with residents enjoying between 18-24hours of power supply each day.

The Governor hopes to commission a 2/60MVA substation at Ekim, Mkpat Enin local Government Area by September 23, 2017 to mark the State’s 30th Anniversary and it is expected to cover five Local Government Areas in the industrial belt of the state.
