……….Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke, has advised members of Uyo Senatorial District Women Forum to align their programmes with the Family Empowerment and Youth Re-orientation path Initiative, feYREP, of wife of the Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel for the purpose of ensuring synergy in the implementation of the sustainable development goals, SDG component that concerns issues of child development.

Receiving the group on Thursday at the House of Assembly, Luke who listed areas of concern to him to include, poverty reduction, Girl-child education, advocacy for vulnerable children, said “I am on an advocacy for us to change the narrative. Today, the world is talk about sustainable development; some of the goals of the SDG that is of concern to me are zero poverty level, quality education, education of the girl-child, vulnerable children”.
Barr Luke who pledged his support to enable the women group actualize its set goals and objectives, said aside the donation of food items, mattress and clothes to children in orphanage homes, it would make more sense if a well equipped library filled with books and ICT devices were donated to all the orphanage homes in the state. He opined that such facilities would greatly enhance the total development of the child.

“We should be able to make those children to live at par with our own children, and enjoy the same privileges and facilities our children enjoy”.
Bearing his mind on the need for Akwa Ibom people to benefit from technology transfer particularly in the telecommunications sector, the Speaker said, “In Nigeria we don’t have a training school for telecoms engineers. I am looking at how we can get Alcatel, Ericsson, and Siemens to train our people on technology transfer. We have so many base station and telecommunication masts here in Akwa Ibom. Medical facilities are going digitally. recently, some General hospitals in the state took delivery of medical equipments and the question i ask ‘if something happens to these equipments, who are the technicians that will repair those equipment”.
Protem Coordinator of the forum, Dr. Mrs. Ekaette Ebong Okon listed the aim and objectives of the forum to include, championing the cause of women who are marginalized or abused, as well as issues pertaining to girl child in the 9 local government areas that make up Uyo Senatorial District.
Dr. Okon who served as a former Deputy Leader of the House of Assembly in the fifth assembly, said the forum is out to promote peace in the area 9 local government areas in particular and the state in general.
The former Itu representative, and currently a board member in one of the federal government educational establishment, declared the readiness of the forum to collaborate with Speaker and the legislature to promote good governance and build a strong and virile Akwa Ibom State.
