PROFILE OF DR DANIEL GEORGE UDO
Dr Daniel George Udo is a Nigerian, Educator, Grammarian, Author and Servant-Leader. Currently the Acting Provost of the Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area. Prior to his appointment by the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel on 16th October, 2019, he rose to the rung of senior lecturer in the Department of English, University of Uyo, where he lectured in from 1995 till 2019.
EARLY LIFE/ EDUCATION:
Daniel Udo was born on 17th April, 1968. He had his primary education at Central Primary School Ikot Ekpene where he obtained his First Leaving Certificate. He proceeded to the Nsit People’s Grammar for his secondary education and successfully obtained his West African Education Certificate (WAEC) at the end of the stipulated period of six years.
He attended the prestigious University of Uyo and obtained his First Degree( B. A English; Second Class Upper Division) in 1993. Also, he chose same institution for his Masters Program and was bestowed M.A English in 2001. He later moved to the University of Calabar where he was conferred Doctor of Philosophy in English in 2009. His quest for knowledge is out of this world. This inspired him to attend the National Teachers’ Institute, Kaduna between 2009 and 2010.
PERSONAL LIFE:
Udo is a Christian. A faithful of the Qua Iboe Church Nigeria, founded 1887. He is legally married to Mrs Etinyene. The union is blessed with four hearty children. He is member of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA); the International Society for Oral Literature (ISOLA); Reading Association of Nigeria (RAN); and the English Language Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (ELTAN).
CAREER:
Daniel Udo started lecturing in the Department of English, University of Uyo in 1995. Due to the high flair for impacting knowledge, he spent 24 years in the classroom until 2019 when he received promotion. In the course of 24 years, he’s been able to travel, visit many and new places and gathered more exposure that has shaped his career outstandingly.
APPOINTMENTS
Within the academia:
In 2000 to 2003, Udo was the Staff Adviser, English and Literary Forum of the University of Uyo.
He also doubled as the Assistant Examinations Officer of the Department of English between 2000 and 2002.
He was reappointed into same office in 2007 and he served till 2008.
In 2009 to 2012, he was the Examinations Officer, Department of English, University of Uyo.
As an ace grammarian he is, he was the Coordinator, GST 111 and GST 121 (Sandwich Programme), University of Uyo in 2002 – 2017 and the Coordinator, Diploma Programme in 2008 – 2009.
He became the Faculty of Arts Representative to the Faculty of Agriculture, Uniuyo in 2009 – 2012. In 2013 – 2015, Udo was appointed the Staff Adviser, Faculty of Arts Students’ Association (FASA) and was also appointed as a Committee Member, 7th University of Uyo Convocation as well as Committee Member, 15th University of Uyo Convocation.
His commitment and dedication to work led to his appointment as Faculty Representative, NUC-Assisted e-Learning Training Programme in 2012; Secretary, ASUU-UUB in 2014 – 2018; Chairman, ASUU-UUB in 2018 – 2019 Hall Warden, Udi Street Hostel, University of Uyo in 2015 – 2016; Deputy Director, Directorate of General Studies, University of Uyo in 2016 – 2017 and Acting Director, Directorate of General Studies in 2017 to 2019.
He is the current Acting Provost, Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
Outside the academia:
Udo was the Coordinator, Career Counseling Programme in Post Primary Schools in Etinan, Nsit Ubium and Nsit Ibom Local Government Areas on 11th -20th January, 2000
He was also the Coordinator, Scholarship Award to University Students of Etinan Federal Constituency Origin in June, 2000; June, 2001.
A one time resource person for the National Population Commission (NPC), 2006 Census.
A two time resource person for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Firstly, in the 2011 Voter Registration and secondly, in the 2011 General Elections.
ACADEMIC WORKS
BOOKS AND JOURNALS AUTHORED/CO-AUTHORED:
He has to his credit over 4 books and 12 peer reviewed articles in national and international Journals. He is a recipient of several awards both in the academic environment, circular society and the church.
