SHOW DEDICATION IN PILOTING AFFAIRS OF THE PARTY
***Gov. Udom Emmanuel urges new state PDP Exco

………Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has charged the newly elected executive members of the state People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to show commitment and dedication in piloting affairs of the party entrusted them.

Governor Emmanuel was addressing delegates of the Party shortly after the party congress held, Thursday, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (the Nest of Champions), Uyo.

At the congress which saw to the emergence of Hon. Udo Ekpenyong as state Chairman of the party as well as election of officers into various offices of the party, Governor Emmanuel commended the orderliness demonstrated in the conduct of the congress and particularly appreciated the out-going Executive led by Obong Paul Ekpo for his resourcefulness and leading the party to victory in two consecutive elections, describing him as a blessing to the PDP family in the state.

He congratulated the new executive members of the party , urging them to follow the footsteps of Obong Paul Ekpo-led Committee by ensuring that the party handed over to them remains intact and only gets better in the next four years.

“I really want to thank the outgoing Chairman of this Party. Wherever you see good followership and good leadership it is not by accident, it means they must have done something right consistently over time.

“…whenever things come the way it came in our state over the past eight years, God will always send a man. God sent us people, not just Paul Ekpo but the entire state executive of our party who had successfully piloted the affairs of the party in the past four years. So I really thank the Paul Ekpo-led Committee of this party and I believe we have a lot to learn from them”, he affirmed.

Governor Emmanuel who is also the leader of the party in the state, spoke on the seamless transition of the party’s leadership, describing Akwa Ibom PDP as a model to reckoned with in the country.

“I want to commend PDP in Akwa Ibom State. PDP in Akwa Ibom State is a model of party politics in Nigeria. …INEC is here, other observers are here, let them tell me which state have they gone to and witness party congress as organized, orderly, peaceful, transparent, cohesive as what we’ve seen today in Akwa Ibom. This is a model of democracy in Nigeria. This is a model of party politics in Nigeria”, the Governor stated.

Governor Emmanuel used the occasion to advise the people to uphold measures that would keep them safe from the COVID-19 pandemic and not to wait to experience the infection or see people that have gone through the scourge before taking precaution, maintaining that such cases would increase pressure on the state government.

The Chairman of the Congress Committee, Mr Eric Nwakana, commended the state leadership of the party as well as the delegates for conducting a peaceful congress in the state.

He said 39 candidates were screened alongside 3845 delegates duly accredited for the congress and declared Hon. Udo Ekpenyong the elected chairman having secured 3840 votes with 5 votes voided while 38 candidates were elected unopposed into various offices of the party .

The Chairman-elect, Hon. Udo Ekpenyong, in his acceptance speech, expressed appreciation to the leader of the party, his predecessor, party faithful and the delegation from the party’s National Working Committee for ensuring a hitch-free process that culminated to his emergence as the state chairman of the party .

Ekpenyong who reaffirmed his loyalty to the party, assured that he would use his position as chairman of the party to promote the ideals of the party through inclusion, wide consultations, sustained dialogue and enduring partnership.

The outgoing Chairman and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the Congress, Obong Paul Ekpo, expressed gratitude to God and the entire PDP family for the support that saw him through his tenure and the peaceful transition.
