WE ARE RECHARGED, REFRESHED AND ENERGIZED FOR THE PROGRESS OF AKWA IBOM | Ibomplaza News

It is to the glory of God that I welcome all of us back to this hallowed chamber for the third Legislative Year of the Seventh Assembly. To His Glory, we are back all complete, recharged, refreshed and energized to continue to carry out our constitutional mandate of making laws for the peace, progress, development and prosperity of our dear state.

Let me thank you all for taking out your time, energy and resources to visit your constituents on Sunday. It was no coincidence that a Thanksgiving Service was part of that home going. I sincerely thank Honourable Members for their unanimous decision to hold the Thanksgiving Service across the 26 State Constituencies. From feelers I am getting, we have collectively set a standard and redefined the concept of constituency briefing. May I also thank you for intermittently breaking your forced ‘’holiday’’ to attend to state issues.

May I appreciate and send hearty greetings to the management and staff of the Assembly for carrying out the strike for the enthronement of Autonomy for the nation’s Houses of Assembly in a peaceful manner. I assure you that we are all in one accord on this matter as the Autonomy of the Legislature is constitutional and will further strengthen the institutions of government towards the full delivery of good governance.
In this third year of our four year term, we will further consolidate on our several interventions to make our state move forward in the area of infrastructural renaissance, peace and unity of our state. We will strive to give our best and not antagonize the Executive but collaborate and cooperate with the Executive for the benefit of our people.
Our dear Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, deserves the collaboration of all stakeholders, including the members of the Seventh Assembly on his avowed commitment to the Completion Agenda, which only seeks to give a better future in all areas of sustainable development. My commitment to the concept of Collaboration of Powers as a subset of the concept of Separation of Powers is an abiding engagement in getting the dividends of democracy to the people. In separation, there are the required checks and balances, but in Collaboration, there are the requisite dividends of democracy which is the only language our constituents understands. I must, however, reiterate our commitment to the best practices in oversighting. We will make sure the Akwa Ibom person gets full value from the state’s commonwealth.

This is the very reason the leadership and members of the 7th Assembly remain committed and resolute in our support to the state government in her Completion Agenda. We will continue to cooperate and collaborate with government to open new vista of development, infrastructural renaissance as well as lift our people out of the pangs of poverty and hunger.

As I welcome all of us back, once again, I urge us all to redouble our efforts in ensuring that we meet the expectations of our people in the discharge of our mandate.

Once again, I say let’s count our remaining days and devote ourselves more to the mandate which our people delivered into our hands. May God guide and lead us in this Legislative Year.

Being remarks by the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, during resumption of plenary for the 3rd Legislative Year.
