We won’t relent in offering effective representation to our people — Speaker

……………….Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke, has reechoed the commitment of members of the 6th assembly towards effective representation.

He made this known on Monday at St. Luke’s primary school, Ikot Esenam in Oruk Anam local government area, during a constituency briefing ceremony hosted by the House Leader, and member representing the area in the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian Akpan. Speaker Luke who hailed the lawmaker for offering quality representation to his constituents, said the legislature will continue to partner the executive arm in the development of the state.

Debunking some public perception erroneously carried concerning constituency briefing, Barr. Luke who was flanked by members of the House of Assembly, explained that the exercise was a practical demonstration of the love the lawmakers have for their constituents saying “constituency briefings conducted by members of the House of Assembly or a National Assembly member is done out of their personal sacrifice. It not budgeted for. There is no extra budgetary provision for constituency briefing.

We only nominate projects for the executive to execute in our constituencies.”
Barr. Luke described the Oruk Anam representative as a well rooted politician whose sojourn in the legislature has impacted positively on the people of Oruk Anam State constituency. While commending the lawmaker for the various empowerment items distributed at the venue, the Speaker advised beneficiaries to make good use of them in order to justify its purpose and good intentions of the for House member.

Briefing his constituents, the House Leader, Sir Udo Kierian Akpan said he decided to host the exercise to intimate his people on his legislative contributions to their wellbeing, and to appreciate them for sending him to the House of Assembly.
Sir Kierian hinted that he has sponsored 4 private bills in the Assembly, and has co-sponsred several others with his colleagues.
Among the empowerment items presented to his constituents include, 15 mini buses, motor bikes, generating sets, 15 computer sets and printing machines, welding and fabrication machines, sewing machines, barbing equipment, motor mechanic tool box, Video Camera, canopies, and chairs. He doled N2.6 Million as business support to 130 women in the area.
Another N2.6 Million was given to 130 youths in the area as business support fund, while chapter executives of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oruk Anam smiled home with N500,000. PDP Ward executives shared N1 Million.
As part of his contribution to the educational advancement of Oruk Anam people, the House Leader handed N2.6 Million bursary donation to 130 students of Oruk Anam origin studying in tertiary institutions. as well as 5000 customised exercise books among others.
Governor Udom Emmanuel who was special guest of honour at the event, hailed the lawmaker for having the interest of his people at heart, and announced a personal donation of N10 Million in support of Udo Kierian’s empowerment programme.
Highpoint of the event was the formal reception of over 300 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, back to the PDP fold by the governor.
