A’IBOM GOVT. SET TO ENGAGE OVER TEN THOUSAND YOUTHS IN IT EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMMES
……Ten thousand Youths of Akwa Ibom State origin have been enlisted to activate the Small And Medium Scale Enterprises, boast industrialisation and provide manpower for the emerging human capital market in the Information And Communication Technology, ICT, and other industries.
The State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel announced this on the new year eve during the End of Year Get Together organised for the Youths at Christ the King Primary School grounds, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo.
Speaking through Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Prince Ukpong Akpabio and his Senior Special Assistant on Entrepreneurial Development and Marketing, Mr. Ime Uwah, Governor Emmanuel said that his administration has come up with projects that will empower over 10,000 youths in the state through the “Ibom 3000 initiative” and “Ibom Business Clinic” designed for existing businesses with less capacity for advancement.
The initiative , according to the Governor, will involve setting up entrepreneurship centres in each of the 31 Local Government Areas of the state to develop skills in hair dressing, welding and other vocations as well as train youths on management of small and medium scale businesses.
He announced that registration for the programme will commence simultaneously in all the LGAs from Monday, 6th January, 2020 while those for the Business Clinic will have to visit the State Ministry of Trade and Investment for training sessions with experts on how to grow their businesses.
The Governor used the occasion to call on youths to cooperate with the government in the implementation of the plan, assuring that selection process will be on merit.
… “this project is an initiative of the present government that will create jobs and empowerment for the youths and women. So what is expected of you is to get back to your local government and be registered because the initiative will train you on how to run your business”, he explained .
He said that the State Government will partner Google, NIIT and other agencies to provide training and certification for youths who are into photography, cinematography, robotics and other related fields to ensure that by the end of 2020, ten thousand youths from Akwa Ibom State are trained and certified for lucrative ventures and financial independence.
The state Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo, in a goodwill message , appreciated the Youths for their support to the Governor during the 2019 governorship election and throughout the period of litigations, adding that it was expedient that Governor Emmanuel reciprocate the gesture with capacity development .
Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Sir Monday Uko, assured the Governor that the youths are resolutely in support of his administration and urged the people to shun all divisive tendencies that would truncate the lofty ideals of the administration .
In the same vain, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Matters, Comrade Aniefiok Iwa-Udofia, said that the day was set aside to appreciate Akwa Ibom youths for the support they gave Governor Emmanuel during the 2019 election .
Comrade Iwa -Udofia reiterated the youths determination to sustaining the peace that has been put in place by the present administration and expressed appreciation to the state administration for integrating the youths in it programmes.
