IN THE NEWS‬: #Gov/State Assembly Elections ***OBA’s Light Shines At Country Home

………….Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert Akpan is a grassroots politician, who is so loved by his people. On election day, his people need no persuasion to turn out in large numbers to cue behind him as a way of demonstrating solidarity and love for his impact-filled representation and leadership.

At his country home at Ididep Usuk, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, eligible voters had trooped out as early as 6am at CMS Primary School, Ididep Usuk Unit 5, Ward 1, Ibiono Ibom LGA, Akwa Ibom State to perform their civic duties.

OBA, as he is popularly known, dominated their discussion while they waited for the arrival of materials from INEC for the commencement of accreditation and voting, which eventually started at about 9:45am and concluded a little after 2pm.

One of the voters, Edet Akpan, said Senator Bassey Albert has been a blessing to the area in so many ways. “OBA is God sent to us. He has affected us tremendously. We love him and we will always stand by him.

“We are standing by him to ensure that the People Democratic Party (PDP) wins. PDP’s victory matters to us a lot,” he said.

For the election, Senator Albert, gives insight on how it went in Ibiono Ibom LGA. The re-elected Senator said: “The turnout has been impressive, far better than the last (Presidential/National Assembly) election.

“Election commenced in my unit about 9:45am. From the reports I get, It has been generally peaceful except in few units like ward 2, unit 12 which is Senator Ita Enang’s unit. He hijacked materials there again as he did on the last election. One of our supporters was shot there. We rushed him to the hospital. I pray he survives.

“Also, unit 11, which is adjacent unit to Senator Ita Enang’s unit, I understand that they hijacked results sheet and burnt election materials. We also had issues in Unit 3, Ward 4 where an APC chieftain hijacked materials to his abode. That’s the Ward of the Federal House candidate, who lost.

“I think all these is about giving the right leadership because I cannot see why I should run away with the materials of my unit. If a politician runs away from his village, it means he has been rejected by the people. It is now left for INEC to do justice and ensure that the will of the people stand.”

He commended his people for the massive turn out and assured them that he will provide a louder voice as he returns to the Senate for a second term.
