…………Governor Udom Emmanuel has enjoined youth corps members posted to Akwa Ibom to socialize with the people and contribute their best to the development of the state.

He spoke at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai Local Government, during the closing ceremony/terminal parade of the 2018 Batch A Orientation Course for 2,298 corps members deployed to the state.

The Governor has advised them to learn and internalize the traditions and values in the state, and make deliberate efforts to integrate among the people of the state.

“Let me also state here, in the past, so many corpers that come here, when they finish, they always find a way to settle down here, I believe this batch will not be an exception.”

“That our state is peaceful, it is hospitable and welcoming and I’m sure you will experience seamless transition in our ways of life.”

He reminded the corps members that the destiny of so many people are tied to them, and as such it was imperative they conduct themselves in manners that would not bring shame to their family, institutions or their people.

He charged them to shape the lives of the younger people in their new places of primary assignment, just as others sacrificed to train them to their current positions.

Thanking the NYSC officials and his Commissioner for Youths and Sports for their commitments to the success of the camp exercise, he re-iterated his desire to continue to provide the enabling environment for them, and to reward excellence in their discharge of duties.

“Let me once more reassure you, that we don’t actually owe youth corps members their allowances, it’s not just NYSC members, let me restate for an umpteenth time, that as a state, we don’t owe even pensioners.”

He assured that any worker or pensioner that complains of being owed salary or pension may not have been an actual worker, or has not offered himself for verification.

He also encouraged them to look at the opportunities that abound in the state and work towards establishing themselves in the state, like most of their predecessors had done.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Sir Monday Ebong Uko intimated the Governor that throughout the period of three weeks, the Corps members in the camp conducted themselves very well in camp.

He said through the Grace of God, none was reported sick, and no incident was recorded.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Julius Amusan, appreciated Governor Emmanuel’s commitment to the welfare of Corps members serving in the state.

“Let me report here that Akwa Ibom State is one of the states that pays his Corps members as at when due. I am proud to say that Akwa Ibom State is not owing Corps members state allowances, we are grateful to you, Your Excellency Sir!!”

He appealed for the Governor’s intervention to give a facelift to the orientation camp facilities that require urgent intervention.

He said the increase in Corps population being posted to the state each year has also aggreviated the poor conditions of the present facilities, making it imperative for both renovation and expansion.

Mr. Amusan lauded the corps members for their peaceful disposition, maintaining that their good conduct paved the way for the peaceful atmosphere that prevailed in the camp, which enabled the officials cover all aspect of the orientation and achieve the set objectives.

He affirmed Mr. Emmanuel as a youth -friendly Governor, and appreciated him for coming personally to preside over the ceremony.
