IN THE NEWS: Obong Paul Ekpo has served PDP with distinction -Prof. Robert Dode

………..The Head of the Department of Political Science, University of Uyo, Prof. Robert Dode has described the Akwa Ibom State Chapter Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo as an astute leader and accomplished Politician who has served PDP with distinction and whose exploits makes the department proud.

Professor Dode made the remark when the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Comrade Ini Ememobong led a team from the Publicity Secretariat of the party to the Department of Political Science to formally hand over a Notice Board donated by the Publicity Secretariat of the party in honour of Obong Ekpo who is a alumnus of the Department.

The Head of Department who thanked the Publicity Secretariat for the kind gesture, lauded Obong Ekpo for the political sagacity he has demonstrated in managing the affairs of the PDP with no record of intra party crisis and attributed his success to the grooming he received as a student of Political Science.

Professor Dode sued for greater synergy between politicians and the Department of Political Science, explaining that, this will help those who formulate and implement public policy to succeed and achieve the collective yearning for good governance.

He thanked the Comrade Ini Ememobong led Publicity Secretariat for deeming it appropriate to honour the State PDP chairman and donating the Notice Board in his honour.

In his remarks, Comrade Ememobong lauded the Department of Political Science for their record of achievement in producing erudite and productive graduates, one of which is Obong Paul Ekpo.

Comrade Ememobong observed that Obong Ekpo is a jinx breaker, becoming the first to serve two terms as State Party Chairman, has led the party to win two Governorship elections and a clean sweep of Local Government, State constituencies, Federal Constituencies and Senatorial elections in the State.

He explained that, Obong Ekpo who doubles as the Chairman of Forum of PDP State Chairmen has left a solid legacy of leading the party executive which comprises three former Commissioners, two former State Legislators and two former Council Chairmen without rancour, infighting and fractionalization.

He announced a further resolve to upgrade the Resource Centre of the Department with current textbook’s and information communication technology facilities to make it conducive for learning in honour of Obong Paul Ekpo.

Others who spoke at the event include Dr. Manasseh Bassey and Dr. Edet Tom, both of who thanked the Publicity Secretariat of the PDP for the donations to the Department and pledged the readiness of the department to provide theoretical and practical solutions to issues in politics, party administration and governance whenever they are consulted.

Giving the vote of thanks, Mr. Asua Asua appreciated Comrade Ememobong, who he stressed, has set a very high standard in running the political communication and Publicity Secretariat of the PDP. Mr Asua said the Department remains grateful that, the PDP has reached out to the University community and charged other political party’s to emulate the kind gesture.

Other Lecturers of the Department who attended the parley were the Exams Officer, Dr. Kofi Umoh, the Staff Adviser, Dr. Ndifreke UmoUdo and Dr. David Adams.
