IN THE NEWS: ORUK ANAM HOLDS FIRST EVER WOMEN’S DAY

…………The atmosphere went electric with pomp and celebration as Oruk Anam Women from far and near converged on the Local Government Secretariat grounds, Ikot Ibritam, to mark the maiden edition of the Oruk Anam Women’s Day.

Clad in their beautiful attires, the event saw the women performed cultural displays, march past, and recitation of dakkada creed to the admiration of all.

Speaking on the occasion, the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, congratulated the women of Oruk Anam Local Government Area for making the maiden edition of the celebration a worthwhile experience, positing that the theme of the occasion: “Educational Foundatmentals and Mothers’ Role in Raising Future Leades”, is apt as the family remains the plank on which future leaders are raised.

She added that the cultural displays as well the contents of the event has demonstrated the style and strong commitment to the unity of Oruk Anam women, noting that when there is unity in the land, there is bound to be
development.

The governor’s wife who further thanked the members of the planing committee for their unity of purpose, and specially appreciated the wife of the Council Chairman, Mrs. Iniobong Idiong for her ingenuity in ensuring that the event is a success.

While sueing for continued peace in the area, Mrs.Emmanuel commended the stakeholders for working towards fostering peace and bettering the lots of women at the grassroots.

“I must commend the stakeholders for their commitment to fostering unity and bettering the lots of women, this event will go a long way to adding
value to the lives of women in this local government.” Mrs. Emmanuel
said.

In her character, the first lady also used the occasion to empower a cross section of the youths of Oruk Anam with business start-ups and equipment, urging them to be productive in their endeavours.

Earlier in her remarks, the wife of the Chairman of Oruk Anam women, Mrs.
Idiong said the event will be a yearly celebration which is geared at promoting unity and togetherness among the women.

She said the women of the area were pleased to identify with the
governor’s wife whom she described as a “worthy daughter, model of
womanhood and a great mobilizer.”

The Chairman on the occasion, Barr. Nkereuwem Okon who spoke on the theme of the event, posited that education is critical to the advancement of any society. She said the family is the first level of influence for the children, hence, mothers’ should live up to their responsibilities of raising upright children.

Goodwill messages from members of the State Executive Council led by the Dean of Commissioners and Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Glory Edet, sons and daughters of Oruk Anam, political stakeholders all appreciated the women for the event and supported with cash donations.

They pledge their unwavering support and loyalty to the governor and wife beyond 2019.
