PHOTO NEWS: JUSTICE GODWIN ABRAHAM CONFIRMED AS SUBSTANTIVE CHIEF JUDGE OF AKWA IBOM STATE
……………………..Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel has confirmed Justice Godwin Jack Abraham as the substantive Chief Judge of the State Judiciary.
With the confirmation, Justice Abraham becomes the seventh Chief Judge of the State.
Administering oath of office to the Chief Judge at Executive Council Chamber, Government House – Uyo, Governor Emmanuel described Justice Abraham as a talented Legal luminary and commended his steadfastness to the rule of law as well as administration of justice maintaing that Justice Abraham handles this without fear or favour.
He spoke of his sense of patrotism and commitment to the Akwa Ibom project and expressed optimism that the Judiciary under the watch of Justice Abraham as the Chief Judge would continue to maintain the highest level of integrity and professionalism.
He said that the state Judiciary has maintained ethical standard and particularly commended Judges in the state for attaining the feat emphasing that the Institution has grown to become the major defender of human right in the state.
Mr Emmanuel who spoke of the existing cordial relationship between the Judiciary, and other arms of government called on the Chief Judge to sustain the harmony and pledged to work assidiously for actualization of the Akwa Ibom project.
Governor Emmanuel pointed out that the Judiciary has a critical role to play in the maintenance of rule of law and expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Judicial Council as well as the state House of Assembly for facilitating the screening process.
He, on behalf of the government and people of the state congratulated Justice Abraham for the elevation wishing him fulfilled years of service as the state Chief Judge.
Speaking to Government House Correspondents shortly after the swearing in ceremony, the State Chief Judge expressed delight at the elevation saying that God has ensured his rise in the profession within the thirty years of his practice.
He said his tenure would witness speedy trial of cases, equity, dispensation of justice, development of infrastructure and improvement in staff welfare adding that the Judicial arm of government would effectively locate itself in the sphere of democracy to ensure that peace and progress reign in the state.
The State Chief Judge pledged his commitment to making the Judiciary Information and Communication Technology (ICT) compliance to ensure speedy trial of cases.
Deputy Governor Mr Moses Ekpo, Senate Minority Leader Senator Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Hon Onofiok Luke, Secretary to the State Government Sir Etekamba Umoren, Head of Civil Service Mrs Ekerebong Akpan, Members of the State Executive Council, retired and serving Judges, Permanent Secretaries, friends and family members of the Chief Judge, graced the occasion.
