…………Akwa Ibom State Government has made frantic efforts to contain the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic diseases in the state.

Commissioner for Health, Dr Dominic Ukpong, in an enlarged executive council meeting of transporters and traders in the state on Friday, called on the general public to disregard negative information by mischief makers.

He hinted that Akwa Ibom has 13 ventilators, which according to him, is the highest in the country, adding the state government has done almost the best measures to curb the pandemic virus.

Dr Ukpong who maintained that Governor Udom Emmanuel has done well and should be applauded, challenged anyone to go to other states and see what is happening there, if they doubt the preparedness of the State Government towards contending the deadly Coronavirus.

The Health Commissioner took time to explicitly sensitise the leadership of traders and transporters on COVID-19 and the need to observe the health precautionary measures.

He urged all commuter operators to reduce by half the capacity of passengers on their buses. “For instance, an 18-passenger bus should be reduced nine. By so doing, the social distancing measure is observed.”

On his part, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, thanked Governor Emmanuel for ensuring that Akwa Ibom has the best health facilities in the country.

He described as false the news making the rounds that Coronavirus is a diseases for politicians, citing examples of pastors and nonpartisan persons who lost their lives in other countries.

Dr Ekuwem urged churches to adhere to the health precautionary measures by reducing the number of their congregations and increasing the number of services.

Also speaking, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Traders Matters, Idorenyin Raphael, thanked the state government for the measures put in place to curb the pandemic virus.

He also thanked God that no case has been recorded in the state. This, he said, is an indication that God really loves and cares for the people of Akwa Ibom State.

Raphael enjoined all traders to comply with the safety measures in order for them to stay in good health and benefit in the interest free loan given by the state government.

He assured them that of no ticket for the period of the one week stay-at-home directive.

Highpoint of the event was the practical illustration of the precautionary measures using running water and alcohol-based sanitizer, as well as a thorough way of washing hands.
