SEE POLITICS AS SERVICE TO HUMANITY, AKHA SPEAKER TASKS A’IBOM STUDENTS

The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has urged students to see politics as a platform to serve humanity.

The Speaker gave the charge on Tuesday, when he received members of the legislative arm of National Association of Akwa Ibom Students (NAAKISS) in his Office at the State Assembly Complex, Uyo.

The Lawmaker said politics should not be seen as an avenue for self-aggrandisement, but an opportunity for societal and human capacity development.

“People tend to think that politics is about self-aggrandisement or a platform to enrich one’s self. But I want you to see politics as service; service that is of immense benefit to the people”, he said.

While describing the students as budding and promising legislators, the Assemblyman urged them to remain peaceful and studious, while maintaining high moral standards in their daily endeavours.

“It is very delicate to be a politician; even if another person breaks the law, it must not be you. You must be of high integrity and good morals. You need to use your position to see what you can give to the people, not what you can get from the people”, he added.

While promising to support the NAAKISS Worldwide Parliament in their activities, Rt. Hon. Bassey noted that the 7th Assembly under his watch, remains committed to grooming and nurturing Akwa Ibom youths for a better and brighter future.

Earlier, leader of the delegation, Godwin Okponung, thanked the Speaker for the audience granted them and further commended his legislative dexterity which he noted, has fostered peace and development in Akwa Ibom State.
